After impressing the world by singing without Auto-Tune at Tiny Desk Concert for NPR, T-Pain has released a new song titled “Stoicville.” This has got to be one of his realeast songs ever. Over a minimal yet moving instrumental T-Pain is anything but stoic on this track by keeping it 100 with some serious raw emotion.
In the song he reminisces about his past & everything he’s been through in order to get to where he’s at today.
“…it’s better days I refuse to have flashbacks, nobody thought I knew what I was doing, nobody believed so nobody would walk me through it, but nobody achieved what I achieved, If only somebody could have seen what I seen…”
I feel like you always hear rappers with the same content in their songs;the struggles they’ve been through and the hard work they put in, but T-Pain does it in such a “story-teller” way that you can actually envision it and feel for him.
“and my daddy proud of me but he got too much pride to say it out loud for me, got that keyboard off the road brought it in the house for me, he coming to my shows hanging in the crowd for me…”
T-Pain could have gone about this song by having a tough beat or turning it into a club banger but he kept it unfiltered and so transparent on this track that anyone and everyone will be able to relate in one way or another.
I appreciate it when artists are vulnerable & I can’t wait to see what else he has up his sleeve! Respect.
