It’s been a few days since Frank Ocean independently released his new album, Blonde, and I’ve finally been able to fully process the musical masterpiece he has created.
I knew I was a fan of Frank’s since Channel Orange but now I”m just full on obsessed with him and his soul. He’s an enigma with so much depth to him that I no longer will question whether or not his music will live up to the hype after being prolonged for so long.

The digital version of Blonde has a total number of 17 tracks with an extensive amount of contributors and when I tell you every single song is worth listening to, I mean you’re going to want to listen to the album in it’s entirety multiple times because each time you hear it you will discover something new you missed before. With that being said I do have my favorites – “Godspeed,” “Self Control,” and “Solo + Solo (Reprise.)”
Legit all of these songs share my inner thoughts and I think a lot of people can relate to that. That’s why you’re the real MVP Frank, you get me and express it so magically.
God Speed
“I will always love you how I do
Let go of a prayer for ya
Just a sweet word
The table is prepared for you
Wishing you godspeed, glory
There will be mountains you won’t move
(Oh-oh-oh)
Still I’ll always be there for you
(Oh-oh-oh)
How I do
I let go of my claim on you, it’s a free world
You look down on where you came from sometimes
But you’ll have this place to call home, always
Self Control
“Now and then you miss it, sounds make you cry
Some nights you dance with tears in your eyes
I came to visit cause you see me like a UFO
That’s like never, cause I made you use your self control
And you made me lose my self control, my self control
Keep a place for me, for me
I’ll sleep between y’all, it’s nothing
Keep a place for me
It’s nothing, it’s nothing
It’s nothing, it’s nothing”
Solo (Reprise)
“So-lo that I can give a fuck about what is trending
Tryna cut down on my spending
Regardless of winning, instead of pretending
And bending over backwards
Over half of these hoes had work done
Sayin’ they want something real from a man
Just saying it, we being real persons
I hate that it’s like this, I feel for you ant
I don’t know what it’s like with a skirt on
So pardon me if I am being insensitive
But darling this only worsens
So-lo my halo, stay way low, it feels like it’s bent
So-lo that when they throw pussy or pesos
I don’t pay no attention to it
So-lo that I am no rookie but feel like a kid
Lookin’ at the other kids
With astonishment while I’m on punishment
Watchin’ the summer come close to an end
After 20 years in, I’m so naive
I was under the impression
That everyone wrote they own verses
It’s comin’ back different and yeah that shit hurts me
I’m hummin’ and whistlin’ to those not deserving
I’ve stumbled and lived every word
Was I working just way too hard?”
(Sheesh! Did Andre 3000 go in or what?!)
The musicality of this album is beyond anything I could have expected. The 4 year wait was definitely worth it and I think we’ve all learned you can’t rush greatness.
Listen to Blonde now on iTunes and take a look at the video for “Nikes” below. Frank Ocean really made a statement with that one.
