Jay Z’s 13th studio album, 4:44, has barely been out a week and its already certified platinum! I mean sheesh he comes out of retirement and shows up these new school rappers so effortlessly but then again he wasn’t the first rapper to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame for nothing this year!
4:44 dropped at midnight on June 30 and it was instantly ALL over the internet. I had a busy weekend so I wasn’t able to immediately dedicate an undivided listen to it but I finally had a chance to listen to Mr. Carter’s 10 track album on repeat and my mind was quickly blown by the talented storyteller that is HOV.
Produced entirely by No I.D. with features only coming from Frank Ocean, Damian Marley and Jay Z’s mom, Gloria Carter, 4:44 is essentially Jay’s response to his wife, Beyoncé’s controversial yet powerful album Lemonade and boy did he serve us with some tea!

Addressing everything from Becky with the good hair on “4:44” to his beef with Kanye West on “Kill Jay Z” to even getting extra personal on “Smile” revealing that his mother is a lesbian, Jay Z really aired out his dirty laundry for all to hear and the world was all ears.

Countless memes have been made, an endless amount of posts have been written dissecting the subliminal jabs on the album but one thing remains a constant and that is that Jay Z is and will forever remain the GOAT. His album literally went platinum in 5 days-the power of Shawn Carter.
