THE WEEKND || MY DEAR MELANCHOLY

It was a Good Friday indeed when The Weeknd released his latest 6 track EP My Dear Melancholy at midnight last night.

Reminiscent of his “House of Balloons” days, Abel gives his day 1 fans exactly what they’ve been longing for with this dark, sensual sound and it’s honestly been a religious experience for me listening to it.

At first listen I right away thought this project was going to be about The Weeknd’s ex flame, Selena Gomez but after I heard “I hope you know this dick is still an option cause I’ll beat it up,  I took my time to learn the way your body functions, you were EQUESTRIAN so ride it like a champion..” on one of my favorite tracks “Wasted Times.” If you weren’t already familiar, Bella had plans for competing in the equestrian events at the 2016 Rio Olympics. *sips tea*

But we really have to thank Selena Gomez for breaking The Weeknd’s heart because we got “Call Out My Name” out of it and that pain caused some beautiful art.

The Weeknd did his pop thing with his previous chart topping hits “Can’t Feel My Face” and “Starboy” but THIS EP, THIS EP right here is The Weeknd I first fell in love with. Don’t get me wrong I’ve loved all of his projects but this melancholic Abel that gets you in your feelings heavy and makes the pain hurt so good is EVERYTHING.  You know when you’re in church and you see people raise their hands to feel closer to God while worshipping? Well if I’m keeping it 100, as soon as I hit play my hands were going up because that’s how much I felt it in my soul- like YES Weeknd LET THEM KNOW!!
